Experience

I earned my bachelor's degree from Concordia University in Wisconsin, where I majored in Elementary and Middle School Education, with a focus on mathematics. I went back a couple years later to study Alternative Education, and earned my degree in that. Since then I have been a high school math teacher for more than a decade. I also have experience working with students from grades one through nine, and working with them in areas other than math, such as writing, reading, comprehension, and other core subjects. I enjoy individually tutoring as much as teaching a classroom, and while many of the teaching skills transfer from one method to the other, there are differences. For example, the students I tutor get my one-on-one attention, and I come to know their learning style, their interests and strengths, and their challenges. Because I'm working with just the one student, I only spend time with them on the things that are challenging to them, to make our time together more efficient. I am able to test a variety of teaching styles until the right fit makes itself known, and that makes learning much more effective. I view my students' successes and my own, and believe all students have the ability to learn each subject.
